The Space Before Us

Shot over one weekend in wet, foggy Wales. Made on very high speed 35mm film — the combination of climate and medium gives the images their dreamy, uncertain quality.

These photographs were taken at the beginning of a relationship that has now lasted twenty-five years. At the time, nothing was known. The work holds the hope and fear of that moment — the space before a life together begins.

Looking back, the images carry something neither of us could have seen: a future already forming
