Originally from London, he spent over three decades working as a cinematographer before turning to still photography as a way to navigate personal upheaval. His work now focuses on themes of illness, identity, departure, and the emotional textures of everyday life.
Much of his recent work, including the ongoing project BREATHE, explores the impact of chronic illness and survival on both body and self. Other series, such as A Home That No Longer Exists, examine the imprint of place and the rupture of emigration.
Drawing on his background in visual storytelling, Battersby’s photographs are quiet, observant, and emotionally charged — often circling the space between presence and absence, documentation and memory.
His work has been recognized by the BBA One Shot Award (Photo of the Week) and was selected for the 2024 Salón Nacional de Artes Visuales in Argentina.
Benjamin Battersby is a photographer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
